This report presents a detailed cost analysis of azepan-2-one production from cyclohexanone via Beckmann rearrangement. In this process, cyclohexanone is first converted into cyclohexanone oxime by reacting it with hydroxylamine sulphate. Then the cyclohexanone oxime produced is treated with sulphuric acid, which induces Beckmann rearrangement to produce bisulphate salt of caprolactam. This is followed by the neutralization of the bisulphate salt of caprolactam using ammonia to cogenerate ammonium sulphate and finally produce caprolactam.
