This report presents a detailed cost analysis of NPK fertiliser production from rock phosphate, ammonia, phosphoric acid, and nitric acid using the nitrophosphate process, also known as the Odda process. In this process, firstly, phosphate rock is acidified using nitric acid to obtain a mixture of calcium nitrate and phosphoric acid, which is further frozen to separate calcium nitrate from the phosphoric acid as crystals.
The left behind phosphoric acid filtrate, containing some traces of calcium nitrate and nitric acid, is neutralised using ammonia to obtain NPK Fertiliser, followed by the addition of potassium chloride or potassium sulphate to finally produce NPK fertilizer.
