This report presents a cost analysis of Styrene/Acrylonitrile (SAN) copolymer production from styrene and acrylonitrile from bulk polymerisation process. In this process, the continuous mass copolymerization of acrylonitrile and styrene to styrene-acrylonitrile resin occurs in the presence of ethylbenzene. The reaction product is processed to a devolatilization step where monomers are recovered and recycled. The SAN melt passes through an extrusion and pelletising system to form styrene acrylonitrile resin.
