This study analyzes Vanillin Production By Oxidative Carboxylation Method, covering manufacturing, process flow, operating expenses, and financial considerations.
Last Updated: January, 2025
This report provides an extensive cost evaluation of vanillin production by oxidative carboxylation method. The production process is initialized by the chemical reaction between glycolic acid and guaiacol in the presence of a base catalyst (such as NaOH or KOH). The reaction results in the formation of vanillylmandelic acid as an intermediate.
The intermediate reactant is then treated with an alkaline solution (such as aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide) in the presence of a metal catalyst such as copper. The process leads to the oxidative decarboxylation of the intermediate product, and results in the formation of vanillin, which is later filtered and purified as the end product.
Vanillin is a chemical compound synthesized by using lignin and guaiacol as its primary raw materials. The procurement of vanillin is influenced by factors including variations in its production cost, market prices, etc., along with the distribution of vanillin (covering its trading and transportation activities) in the global market and governmental policies, etc. Moreover, other vital factors such as its demand in the food, beverages, pharmaceutical, and perfumery industries, as well as the availability of its raw materials (including softwood for lignin production, and phenol, creosote oil, etc., for guaiacol preparation), harvesting cost of softwood for lignin production, environmental concerns, and financial policies also impact its procurement in the global market.
The project economic analysis provided in the report discusses a Germany-based plant:
