BPCL commences with the construction of its Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant, a INR 90 crore project

CBG Plant Yamunanagar INR 90 crore green energy project

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi recently (April 14, 2025) laid the foundation stone for Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.’s (BPCL) Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in Yamunanagar, Haryana. The INR 90 crore project, slated for completion by May 2027, will have an annual production capacity of over 2,600 tonnes of CBG, utilizing municipal solid waste and cattle dung through anaerobic decomposition. This initiative marks a significant step toward India’s sustainable energy goals, promoting waste management, green fuel production, and employment generation.

The plant will scientifically process 45,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste and 36,000 tonnes of cow dung annually, saving the Municipal Corporation INR 3 crore in tipping fees. It will reduce CO2 emissions by 7,800 tonnes, substitute 2,600 tonnes of CNG, and save over INR 9.5 crore in forex through import substitution. Additionally, it will produce 9,500 tonnes of bio-manure, enhancing soil health and crop yields. The project will curb methane emissions from landfills, reduce air pollution, and create 15,000 man-days of employment during construction, along with 50 direct and indirect jobs post-completion.
