Chandra Asri Wins License For Building An EDC Plant From A Leading Vinyl Technology Licensor In The US
Through its subsidiary, PT Chandra Asri Alkali (CAA), Chandra Asri inked the Basic Engineering and Technical Services licensing agreement with a top vinyl technology licensor in the US for the development of an ethylene dichloride (EDC) plant in Cilegon. This came as a move by the company to successfully construct a global scale incorporated chloralkali and EDC plant (CA-EDC plant).

CAP2's subsidiary, the CAA-operated CA-EDC plant, will have a production of capacity of over 400,000 metric tons per annum for caustic soda and 500,000 metric tons per annum of ethylene dichloride (EDC).
As a partner in development, Chandra Asri aims to help construct and infrastructure sectors at a regional scale supplying polymer raw material for polyvinyl chloride that are high in quality. By developing this EDC plant, Chandra Asri also strives to assist Indonesia in taking the top position in ASEAN as a petrochemical producer, along with being a strategic companion for the downstream sector.
Project Details
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund, Indonesia Investment Authority (INA), along with PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical Tbk (Chandra Asri; Jakarta, Indonesia) for constructing a global-scale chloralkali plant in Indonesia. INA, as well as other international investors, will potentially explore the possibility of gaining an equity stake in PT Chandra Asri Alkali (CAA).
Aligned with this, Chandra Asri has also inked a standard engineering and licensing agreement with Asahi Kasei Corp. (AKC; Tokyo), a top licensor with avant-garde technology to develop chlor-alkali plants worldwide.
