Denka Company Limited, along with Transform Materials LLC, is set to integrate equipment for the production of acetylene and hydrogen, which will use a low-carbon producing technology at its Japanese Omuta Plant. They will be establishing and optimising the technology for producing acetylene at a large scale.
For this project, Denka has partnered with Transform Materials LLC, which is a global supplier of microwave plasma technology. May 23, 2023 saw the signing ceremony for the agreement.

The company aims to achieve the 8-year target set by them called Mission 2030, which was introduced this year. Their goal is to support the transformation of their operations into "three-star businesses", specialising in three segments megatrends, speciality, and sustainability. Additionally, they also have to work towards lowering their CO2 emissions by 2030 by 60% since it is a part of their non-financial KPIs. The company is focused on transforming its portfolio and setting up a low-carbon acetylene chain.

Transform Materials, the chosen partner of Denka, is an American private equity-backed company which holds the rights to technology used in the production of acetylene and hydrogen using methane as well as other hydrocarbons (gaseous) in microwave plasma reactors.
Advantages of The Technology
The company's technology leads to lower emissions of CO2 produced by their primary products like acetylene black (made up of existing acetylene chain created by carbide) and chloroprene rubber. The technology can also form the latest initiatives for the goal of carbon neutrality.
Apart from this investment, the company also aims to invest around 85 billion yen up to 2030 in the course of 8 years. They are moving towards creating many initiatives linked with sustainability in Japan and overseas to achieve carbon neutrality in 2050.
