The Chinese demand for polyethylene has rapidly risen compared to the rest of the world. Through this new development, BASF (Badische Anilin- & Sodafabrik) will establish itself in the Chinese market and gain a competitive edge in terms of production at the Zhanjiang site allowing the company to serve its clients in end-user industries like packaging, transportation, consumer goods, and construction.

The site is conveniently closer to consumers and is completely backwards integrated to supply the best quality PE products that end-users can rely on. The product can be used for many applications that demand durability, such as speciality films, pipes, and blow moulded components used in industrial and household chemical containers, specifically in the Southern market of China.

The German chemical company began constructing the plant last year, investing around €10 billion in the project. This project will be the most significant one-time investment that will be made by a German company in China and will completely run on renewable energy.
