Italy hopes to reach an agreement with Stellantis on a vehicle industry strategy by the end of the year

Italy aims to enhance its automotive industry while considering an agreement with the Stellantis group of carmakers and a few others by the end of this year. The CEO of the Stellantis car groups, along with the industry minister Adolfo Usro, plans to increase car production in the country to around one million every year, with no specifications for the timeframe for the goal.

As per Adolfo Usro, the agreement was expected to get finalized by the end of July, which is now extended further by the end of September. The industry minister mentioned that they might get ready with a preliminary plan set ready with Stellantis by the end of September. The objective of the project is not only related to the carmakers and the government but also associated with the unions, local government bodies, and the lobby group, which is termed ANIFA. As per the union sources, the program is expected to be announced as early as September 10.

The meeting is looking forward to discussing the ways to produce more vehicles in Italy. It aims to search for more investible grounds that would empower the automotive industry. It is planning to make work and energy cost-effective and turn it towards eco-friendly practices. Stellantis stated its strong commitment to the planned program and confirmed its contribution towards the dynamic and constructive talk after the summer break.

Key automakers, such as Alfa Romeo, Jeep, and Peugeot, have produced less than 700,000 cars and vans in Italy in the year 2021 and 2022, which is expected to exceed around 800,000 units this year. The Italian automotive market has produced around one million cars, the latest by 2017. Evidently, the Italian automotive market is a bit behind in the production of electric cars compared to the other European countries in the global market.

According to Procurement Resource, the Italian government is aiming to make an agreement with Stellantis in order to boost the automotive industry of the country. The Programme is aiming towards enhancing the production rate of manufactured vehicles in the country. The next discussion on the concerned topic is expected to be conducted on August 30, 2023.
