Xylene Price Trend for the Second Half of 2023
Asia
The price trend of xylene followed an inclining trail during the third quarter, but the dynamics turned bearish in the later months of the year. During Q3, the supply challenges and weather disruption exhausted the inventories. In addition to this, the strong demand from the end-user industries led to an uptick in the xylene price trend. However, the lowering of prices in the next quarter was based on the significant decline in the number of new orders and slower interest of overseas players. The pessimistic economic outlook also contributed to the sluggish behavior of the xylene prices.

Europe
The upswing in the price trend of xylene during the third quarter was a positive consequence of tight supply and rising demand from the consumer sectors. Another supporting fundamental of the market was the rise in the production cost on the basis of the limited supply of raw products. However, the demand became tepid in the last quarter of 2023 as under the inflationary pressure and rising rates of interest, the confidence of consumers crumbled. Further, the supply chains eased out and raised the existing inventory levels, resulting in a declining trend in the xylene prices.
North America
Similar to the European and Asian countries, the third quarter bore fruitful results for the xylene pricing dynamics. The manufacturing rates were stabilized by the rising interest of the downstream polyester and packaging industries, favoring the inclination in the xylene price trend. The market also seemed to bear the loss of inventories due to constrained supply chains. However, the supply rates changed in the next quarter, and the procurement rates became bearish, favoring the downfall of the xylene price trend.
Analyst Insight
According to Procurement Resource, the price trend of Xylene is estimated to depict an oscillating journey in the upcoming quarters as the fluctuating crude oil prices and tepid outlook of the downstream industries offer debatable results.

Xylene refers to any one of three isomers or a mixture of three isomers of dimethylbenzene, which have same chemical formula ((CH3)2C6H4) but different molecular structure. The three isomers, that is, ortho (o), meta (m), and para (p), differ structurally only in the placement of the methyl groups.
Xylene is utilised as solvents, as components of aviation fuel, and as raw materials for the production of dyes, fibres, etc. Each of the 3 compounds has a central benzene ring with two methyl groups attached as substituents. In appearance they are all colourless, flammable liquids, some of which are of great commercial value.
