Asia

The price trend for aluminium slug had a very mixed run in the Asia-Pacific region during the said period. During the initial months of H2, strict covid restrictions attributing to an industrial shutdown in China led to dampened demands which affected the market prices. But as the policies eased and the market stood back up a little, aluminium slug demand soared, again fluctuating the prices. As the product demand rebounded it revived the supply chains and logistics, thereby strengthening the price trend for aluminium slug towards the end of December’22.

Europe

During H2 2022, production costs for Aluminium Slug in Europe remained high as an unprecedented hike in energy costs inflated all sectors of the European economy. However, towards the fourth quarter, the demand and mobility aspects improved but no significant decrease was seen in the production costs. Supply chains resumed and demand returned in the market. Nonetheless, the demand was minute against market inventories hence, it did not make a significant impact on the prices. Asia

The price trend of aluminium slug tipped towards the higher side of the scale owing to the inflated prices of pure aluminium metal. In the Chinese domestic market, the prices surged during the first quarter because of the surging power costs and freight charges. The price of aluminium averaged 21840 RMB/MT.

With the removal of covid restrictions, the factories started churning products at an increased pace which caused the prices to fall. However, soon the prices surged as the booming demand from end-user industries depleted the market stockpiles creating shortages.

Europe

Since the production of primary aluminium is an extensive energy process, aluminium prices hit an all-time high in Europe. The benchmark price for aluminium reached 2865 USD/MT on the London Metal Exchange.

North America

In line with the global outlook, the price trend of aluminium slug remained strong throughout the US domestic market. The high upstream energy costs, high costs of transportation, and robust end-user demand contributed to the rising prices of primary aluminium. The price of aluminium averaged 2400 USD/MT (approx.) during the end of the second quarter.
