In the second quarter of 2025, the aluminium sulfate price curve in India displayed a consistent upward trend. Prices were approximately 224 USD/MT (FOB) in April and rose to around 274 USD/MT in June. Trading activity increased steadily throughout the quarter, with stronger demand from the water treatment and paper manufacturing sectors supporting higher procurement levels in the market. Suppliers responded to the improved buying interest by maintaining stable production levels, while regional inventories remained low. Although no major supply disruptions were reported, fluctuations in raw material input costs contributed to some price volatility during the period.
In the UK, the aluminium sulfate price trend followed a different trajectory. The quarter began on a positive note with moderate gains, but momentum weakened midway through the period before showing a slight rebound toward the end. Prices were around 330 USD/MT (CFR) in April and increased marginally to approximately 334 USD/MT in June. Market feedback indicated that buying interest softened as end users adjusted order volumes in response to slightly higher inventory levels and stable utility costs. Import activity remained steady, and no significant logistical disruptions were observed during the quarter.
The US market also demonstrated gradual price gains during the quarter. Demand from municipal and industrial sectors remained firm, while import volumes and domestic production adequately met key consumer requirements. Producers maintained uninterrupted shipments, and procurement sentiment reflected cautious optimism. Volatility in raw material prices, along with firm contract settlements, provided additional support to the upward pricing trend. Prices were approximately 374 USD/MT (CIF) in April and rose to around 392 USD/MT in June.

Alum schists (a type of metamorphic rock) are a mixture of iron pyrite, aluminium silicate, and various bituminous substances. These are roasted, and during the process, the sulfuric acid obtained reacts with clay to form a product mixture containing aluminium sulfate. The mixture is subjected to further treatment to remove the impurities. The mixture is mixed with water and allowed to stand for water-soluble impurities to separate. Additionally, it is subjected to evaporation so that iron sulfate crystals separate, leaving the desired aluminium sulfate.
