Asia
After a rough run in the second quarter, the prices of ATMP faced northwards in the third quarter of 2023. This sudden improvement in the market dynamics was based on the gradual inclination in the cost of feedstock materials owing to the changes shown by the global trade of fertilizers.
As the major fertilizer-producing nations increased their customer base, the influx of fertilizers during the peak planting seasons helped avoid the drying of inventories and maintain a sleek balance of supply and demand. However, this momentum was not translated in the fourth quarter and the prices again fell. This was in order to the climatic changes being tolerated by the agricultural community and the disruption of the normal planting calendar.
Europe
Similar to the Asian countries, the rising demand for fertilizers exerted a positive influence on the ATMP market during the third quarter of 2023. Additionally, Asian imports, particularly from China, were quoted at higher prices in the German market, leading to a spike in the ATMP price trend. However, the downward trend in the fourth quarter quickly overturned the progress made by the market in the previous quarter. This was due to the limited demand from the farming sector and excessive rise in the cost of production.
North America
A notable rise in the price trend of ATMP was observed during Q3 of 2023. In North America too, the fertilizer and downstream agricultural product producing sector supported the uptick in the prices during the third quarter. Along with this, the rise in the cost of feedstock chemicals and the influx of costly Chinese imports overall maintained the prices of ATMP over the bar. But the growth rate in the next quarter was only mild and in view of several economic challenges, the prices of ATMP declined consistently throughout the quarter.

Asia
The Asian ATMP (Amino Trimethylene Phosphonic Acid) market witnessed very mixed price patterns in the first half of 2023. Prices depended on the feedstock phosphorous acid and ammonium chloride prices and the demands from downstream construction, coating, and dyeing sectors. ATMP prices were stable for most of the first quarter, but a falling pattern was visible in the second quarter as the market became saturated and demands dipped. Overall, an oscillating price trend for ATMP (Amino Trimethylene Phosphonic Acid) was observed in the Asian market.
Europe
The European ATMP (Amino Trimethylene Phosphonic Acid) market showed low swinging patterns in the said period. The struggling European economies had a hard time with downstream construction and other sectors, which, coupled with falling feedstock prices, contributed to the declining price trend. Further, the improved freight conditions and restored supply chains amidst low demands aided the downward trajectory for ATMP prices.
North America
The North American ATMP (Amino Trimethylene Phosphonic Acid) prices mimicked the trend seen in the European market and remained fluctuating throughout the period of discussion. After the restoration of trade routes and industrial revival in China, cheaper Asian imports were accessible. Further, the falling prices of phosphorous contributed to a lower wavering price pattern.
ATMP or Amino Trimethylene Phosphonic Acid is basically known as a phosphonic acid. It is synthesised with the Mannich-type reaction of ammonia, formaldehyde, and phosphorous acid, in a manner quite alike to the Kabachnik–Fields reaction. It has excellent chelation, low threshold inhibition and lattice distortion ability. In water system, it can prevent scale formation, particularly for calcium carbonate and is thus, widely used in in recirculated cooling water systems for power station, oil field, central air-conditioning, etc.

To produce ATMP via Phosphorus Acid, Mannich type reaction synthesis route is utilised. In this process, phosphorus acid reacts with ammonium chloride at appropriate temperature while formaldehyde is mixed to the reaction vessel. Finally, ATMP is produced by separating HCL and unreacted ammonium.
