Asia
Bronopol is industrially obtained via the reaction of sodium hydroxide, calcium chloride, nitromethane, and liquid bromine. During the first quarter, the price of feedstock NaOH exhibited an upwards trend averaging 517 USD/MT FOB Qingdao. Similarly, the prices of feedstock bromine (8876 USD/MT FOB Qingdao ) and nitric acid followed in a similar manner. These high prices owing to the surging crude oil prices, caused the price trends for Bronopol to strengthen in the domestic market.
The bronopol prices registered an oscillating trend in the second quarter. While feedstock NaOH and nitric acid prices increased due to the increased demand from the fertilizer industry, the prices of bromine suffered. Also, the cautious buying attitude of buyers caused the price trends of bronopol to dip slightly; however, it stabilized towards the end of the said quarter.
Europe
The European market exhibited a similar price trend for Bronopol compared to its Asian counterpart. The price of feedstock NaOH ( 711 USD/MT FOB Hamburg) and nitric acid (420 USD/MT FOB Hamburg) remained strong in the first half, whereas the prices of bromine suffered.
North America
The prices of Bronopol remained anchored in the US domestic market owing to the surging feedstock costs and robust demand from the downstream pharmaceutical industries. The price of feedstock NaOH averaged 626 USD/MT while that of nitric acid averaged 350 USD/MT FOB New York.

About
