Cryolite prices observed very short-ranged fluctuations during the second half of the year 2023. Cryolite prices averaged around 7850 RMB/MT in July in the Chinese (Henan) domestic market. These prices went to around 7700 RMB/MT in December’23, reflecting the confined nature of the market oscillations.

The primary factor keeping these prices within limited boundaries was the dull demand; since the market demands tottered at the lower end, the prices didn’t have much room to grow. Even though the feedstock aluminium oxide prices inched up during the later part of the final quarter, the feverish demands from the downstream steel and welding industries kept the cryolite prices in check.
