- Furfuryl alcohol prices in Q1’26 followed a firm upward trend, supported by rising feedstock costs and stable downstream demand across industrial applications.
- Feedstock pressure remained strong as corn prices in China showed a steady rise through the quarter, increasing furfural production costs and pushing prices higher.
- Downstream demand from foundry resins, construction materials, and chemical intermediates remained stable, supporting consistent market activity.
The prices of furfuryl alcohol witnessed an upward trend during Q1’26 as a result of rising costs of upstream materials and stable demand from end-use markets. As furfural is extracted from corn cobs, the rise in corn prices in China caused an increase in the cost of manufacturing, which resulted in a higher price for furfuryl alcohol. The upstream market gradually moved up during the quarter because of a tight supply and stable demand for the feedstock, resulting in higher costs of production of furfural and its derivatives. In terms of supply, a steady processing volume, along with the absence of low-priced raw material sources, supported prices in the market. Demand remained stable from key sectors including foundry binders, resins, and chemical intermediates, where procurement was largely based on essential requirements, maintaining consistent offtake.
