N-propyl Acetate Price Trend 2025

Asia

In Asia, N-Propyl Acetate prices moved through a series of gentle swings but leaned lower by the end of the year. For most of the first half, supply stayed steady because domestic production and import volumes matched demand fairly well. Trading remained calm as coatings, automotive and packaging buyers purchased only what they needed. In the third quarter, prices in Japan showed only a slight movement when freight conditions stabilized, but demand still stayed soft.

Later in the year, China began to weigh heavily on regional sentiment. Both main feedstocks weakened, plants ran at high operating rates and inventories grew. At the same time, downstream paint and ink producers cut back purchases as construction and marine activity slowed with the colder season. All these factors pushed regional prices downward toward the end of 2025.

Europe

Across Europe, the N-Propyl Acetate market followed a mostly soft pattern through the year. Demand from coatings and adhesives stayed uneven, which kept buyers careful with their purchases. At the same time, global feedstock weakness reduced cost pressure for producers. Stable plant operations and adequate supply prevented sharp price moves. With no major restocking waves and overall industrial activity staying moderate, the European market spent most of 2025 drifting slightly lower with limited volatility.

North America

In North America, prices eased through much of 2025. Early in the year, producers announced increases, but real market conditions did not support strong upward movement. Demand from coatings and adhesives stayed subdued, and many buyers continued short-term purchasing instead of building inventory. By the third quarter, softer feedstock costs, smooth logistics, and healthy inventories kept the market well supplied. Export interest from Latin America helped a little but not enough to reverse the overall downward mood. As a result, prices in North America remained under pressure for most of the year.

Analyst Insight

According to Procurement Resource, N-Propyl Acetate prices are expected to remain steady to slightly weak, unless demand improves or feedstock costs firms in the coming months.

We have been working with Procurement Resource for over two years now. These guys can provide data for any market in any country. I have given them numerous challenging assignments to work upon and have been quite impressed with their approach and results.

Large Indian Conglomerate and a known FMCG Brand Procurement Manager

When we started our Betaine manufacturing operations in Brazil, we were struggling to identify suppliers and benchmark our procurement costs vs other players already in the market. Procurement Resource helped us understand the market in Latin America, the key suppliers, how others were getting products, and even helped us in negotiating prices.

Global FMCG GiantDirector (Manufacturing)

I would like to recognize quality of work done by your team on VIP (Value Improvement Program) for Purplle Private brand Packaging portfolio. Your team helped us in identifying right suppliers, collected Vendor related data, floating inquiry, price comparison+benchmarking. This has helped us achieve a significant cost saving.

Asia

In the Asian region, N-propyl acetate prices showed mixed movement during the second half of 2024. In Q3, the market generally firmed as demand improved from sectors such as personal care, pharmaceuticals, and solvents. Stronger buying interest and periodic logistical constraints, including port delays and uneven vessel schedules, added support.

China, in particular, saw a noticeable pickup in consumption toward late Q3 as manufacturers prepared for year-end orders. However, this   did not continue evenly into Q4. Some countries, especially South Korea, recorded softer industrial activity and focused on reducing stocks, which limited upward momentum. As a result, the regional trend in Q4 became more uneven, with China staying firm while other markets stabilized or eased slightly.

Europe

In Europe, N-propyl acetate followed a more subdued pattern. The third quarter brought steady downward pressure as weak demand from coatings, automotive, and general industrial segments continued. Shipping disruptions and rising logistics costs created uncertainty, but the impact on pricing was limited because supply remained comfortable.

By Q4, seasonal slowdowns added further softness. Production stayed consistent, and buyers remained cautious, purchasing only when needed. This kept the market oversupplied, resulting in a gently declining trend through most of H2. Overall, Europe saw muted trading activity and limited price fluctuations due to a stable but slow demand environment.

North America

North America showed steadier conditions than the other regions. In Q3, quiet demand from coatings, construction, and pharmaceuticals led to stable trading and sufficient stock availability. Activity improved slightly in select downstream segments, but buyers avoided large purchases and focused on inventory control. Q4 followed a similar tone as year-end stock management kept buying conservative. Production remained stable, and supply disruptions were minimal, which helped maintain a relatively balanced market.

About N-propyl Acetate

N-propyl acetate is a colorless, flammable liquid with a fruity odor, characterized by its chemical formula C5H10O2. It is an ester formed from the reaction of propanol and acetic acid. N-propyl acetate has a boiling point of approximately 101°C and is moderately soluble in water but highly soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether.

Its primary properties include low viscosity, good solvency power, and a relatively low level of toxicity, making it a preferred solvent in various industrial applications. It evaporates quickly, contributing to its use in fast-drying formulations. N-propyl acetate is commonly used in the production of coatings, printing inks, adhesives, and personal care products due to its ability to dissolve a wide range of resins and its pleasant odor.

N-propyl Acetate Production Process

  • N-propyl acetate Production by esterification of propanol with acetic acid

In the presence of acid catalysts such as methane sulfonic acid, toluene sulphonic acid, or sulfuric acid, the esterification of propanol is carried out. The simple single-step reaction between propanol and acetic acid in the presence of the aforementioned catalysts results in the production of n-propyl acetate.
