  • Pistachio prices surged sharply in Q1’26 due to tightening global availability, with supply risks amplified by heavy dependence on a few producing regions, led by the United States as the largest producer.
  • Supply disruptions in Iran constrained export flows, as logistical bottlenecks, trade restrictions, and elevated freight and insurance costs limited material movement and tightened spot supply.
  • Strong buying from import-dependent markets and firm consumption in confectionery segments sustained demand, while buyers increasingly shifted toward U.S. origins amid reliability concerns around Iranian shipments.

Pistachio prices moved significantly upward during Q1’26, driven primarily by supply-side disruptions and trade flow dislocations. The market remained structurally tight as Iran, a key exporter, faced severe constraints in moving product due to geopolitical tensions, logistical inefficiencies, and financial barriers, leading to delayed shipments and reduced availability in international markets. This disruption forced importers across Asia and the Middle East to pivot toward the United States, the largest global producer, where supply, although relatively stable, was largely tied up in long-term contracts, thereby restricting spot market liquidity. Additionally, rising freight and insurance costs further inflated landed prices, while traders increased inventory holdings in anticipation of prolonged shortages. Turkey offered limited supply-side support but lacked the scale to offset Iranian disruptions in the short term. On the demand side, steady consumption across snack and confectionery industries, combined with precautionary buying and sourcing diversification, reinforced the bullish pricing environment.
