Pistachio Price Trend for the Second Half of 2023

Pistachio’s market behavior has been optimistic throughout the given time period and has varied regionally for the most part. America saw an astonishingly rising proportion in the global pistachio trade, while Iran’s participation receded. One of the key factors was the heightened crop yield in the North American region.

Pistachio’s yield crossed the estimated volumes for the year. Compared to the 885 million pounds (approx.) of the previous year, the pistachio yield crossed the estimated volume of around 1 billion pounds (approx.) already by the middle of the third quarter.

Europe’s pistachio imports from Iran decreased by around 60% this year, while increased multifolds from Argentina. The USA remained the top exporter to the EU despite a slight fall in export volumes. Overall, given these supply and demand dynamics, the prices wavered within confined limits, with occasional and marginal upticks.

Analyst Insight

According to Procurement Resource, the Pistachio price trends are expected to remain within a similar range in the coming months as well because the production is expected to be boosted even more in some areas due to El-Nino weather effects.

Pistachio Price Trend for the First Half of 2023

Pistachios are a rich source of healthy fats, protein, and dietary fiber with both sweet and savory flavors and thus are used in both cooking and baking. They are also beneficial for heart health and weight management as they have a highly diversified nutritional profile.

In the US markets, the annual production of pistachios will exceed 1 billion pounds as more acres are put into production. Despite competition from Iranian production, domestic pistachio shipments inclined in the first two quarters of 2023, exceeding 250 million pounds.

The exports to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa have grown, with the Middle East seeing a particularly considerable shoot up. In addition to this, China and Hong Kong, along with other areas such as Mexico, Canada, and India also showcased a positive trajectory of demand and thus drove the price trend of pistachios in the northward direction.
