Petronet LNG Ltd signs a deal with Gopalpur Ports Ltd to establish a FSRU backed LNG Terminal

Establish a FSRU Backed LNG Terminal

Petronet LNG Ltd (PLL) has announced a significant step forward in its expansion plans by entering into binding transaction documents with Gopalpur Ports Ltd. This collaboration, formalized on December 27, includes a sub-concession agreement, sub-lease deed, and port service agreement, marking a crucial development for the energy sector.

The core objective of this agreement is to set up a Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) based LNG terminal at Gopalpur Port in the Ganjam district of Odisha. The initial phase of this terminal is projected to have a capacity of approximately 4 MMTPA, with a future provision to enhance it to a 5 MMTPA land-based terminal.

This project represents Petronet LNG's first venture into establishing an LNG terminal on the east coast of India. The establishment of this terminal is expected to significantly increase the regasification capacity in India, thereby supporting the country's shift towards a more gas-based economy.

According to the article by Procurement Resource, Petronet LNG Ltd has partnered with Gopalpur Ports Ltd to establish a 4 MMTPA Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) based LNG terminal in Odisha, with potential expansion to 5 MMTPA. This strategic move, aimed at augmenting India's regasification capacity, also aligns with Petronet's recent petrochemical projects and supply agreements.
