With a new £4 billion electric vehicle plant in the UK, Tata Sons departs from Make in India

EV plant in the UK

The Tata Group has invested an amount of approximately £4 billion in setting up an EV plant that primarily manufactures batteries for electric vehicles in the UK. The company has curated land around southwest England and aims to produce a new range of electric Jaguar and Land Rover cars.

The brand-new EV cell factory is estimated to generate over 40 gigawatt hours, which can supply energy to over half a million vehicles a year, depending on the battery size. According to the chairman of Tata Sons, the multi-billion investment will pump up the transition of the automotive sector towards EV culture. The new plan would also strengthen the relations with the UK market space, covering various domains, including technology, steel, chemicals, and, most importantly, consumers.

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom stated that setting up a factory would bring various job opportunities while cultivating a stronger relationship between India and Britain. It will empower the basic ideology of Britain to win out the global competition of building EV cells in a huge capacity on an international level.

Additionally, the new factory set up in the UK will enable the country to build networks and gain links with other countries that primarily manufacture EV batteries, which are essential to power electric vehicles on a commercial scale. This will also help the car manufacturers after Brexit sets new protocols, targeting to produce more EV parts locally.

According to the Procurement Resource, the Tata Group has signed a multi-billion investment in setting up new EV cell manufacturing plants, empowering the EV sector in the United Kingdom. The brand-new plant would also strengthen the global presence of Britain in the electrical mobility sectors, enabling high profits for the car manufacturers of the country while opening plenty of job opportunities. The investment drove TATA Sons away from “Make in India” though.
