Hygenco Green Energies begins with the construction of its green ammonia manufacturing plant in Odisha

Green ammonia manufacturing plant in Odisha

Hygenco Green Energies has commenced construction of a green ammonia production facility at Gopalpur Industrial Park in Odisha, marking a significant step in India's renewable energy sector. The project will initially produce 600 tonnes of green ammonia daily, with commercial operations expected to commence in 2027. A planned second phase expansion will double this output capacity by early 2028, ultimately reaching full production of 1.1 million tonnes annually.

The development follows Hygenco's strategic partnership with Swiss commodity firm Ameropa, established in June 2024, to explore supply opportunities for European and Asian markets. This Odisha facility represents part of Hygenco's broader $2.5 billion investment strategy in green hydrogen and ammonia projects across India over the next three years. The company recently commissioned a commercial-scale green hydrogen plant in Hisar during 2024, demonstrating its growing operational capabilities.

Hygenco's green ammonia initiative received validation through the RFNBO pre-certification from Bureau Veritas South Asia Region under the CertifHy scheme in early 2025. This European Commission-recognized certification positions the company to supply sustainable ammonia solutions to EU markets, supporting the region's transition to low-carbon energy sources. The project aligns with global efforts to decarbonize industrial processes and energy systems through renewable hydrogen derivatives.
