Nokian Tyres' Newly Launched Romanian Passenger Car Tire Factory
Nokian Tyres held a record-breaking ceremony announcing the launch of their latest zero CO2 emission plant in Oradea, Romania. The investment will account for an assessed EUR 650 million (USD 709.5m). After it becomes operational, the plant is anticipated to produce six million tires annually, with room for an increase in manufacture.
The plant will primarily manufacture larger rim-size passenger and SUV tires which will be available for purchase mainly in Central Europe. Apart from a production facility, the factory will also work as a distribution and storage unit. The site will cover an estimated of around 100,000m2.
According to Nokian, the plant's first tires will be produced in 2024, prior to the start of commercial tire production in 2025.
The production facility is strategically located near several European transportation routes and will employ around 500 personnel during the initial production stage. The company is currently waiting for the EU's final decision about its EUR 100 m (USD 109.2m) funding application which was previously approved by the Romanian government.
