Production Of Single Crystal High Nickel Cathodes

Production Of Single-Crystal Cathodes Will Be Key For The Extension Of The Next-Gen Battery's Life By Over 30%

LG Chem has announced its initiation of single-crystal high-nickel cathode production at its Cheongju plant situated 120 kilometres southwest of Seoul. The mass-produced cathodes will be used in next-generation batteries to increase their life by 30%. The primary batch of the commodity produced will be shipped by July to their worldwide customers.

Previously in March of this year, the company also proposed the license to patent this technology in light of the growing competition in the technology market.

For the company, the next step in line is to expand the products production line to its Gumi plant scaling production by over 50,000 tons by 2027.

The single-crystal high-nickel cathodes are an innovation that will change the game of the future battery market and will also help resolve the challenges faced by their clients. The company will be the market leader in advanced battery material technology and achieve a more diverse product portfolio, establishing itself as the most significant producer of integrated battery materials worldwide.

The company is focused on the mass production of its product, given the fact that there will be a huge increase in sales of electric vehicles in the near future. Hence, the use of their battery material in the EV industry will help the company boost its profit.

LG Chem is the sole company to produce battery material on a mass scale in Korea. The company has been working on ways to develop the technology sense 2021 in order to better serve its customers and resolve their issues related to battery gas.

According to the Procurement Resource article, LG Chem will be starting mass production in Korea for its single-crystal high-nickel cathodes that show promise in increasing the lifetime of batteries by 30 percent. The company's growing focus on battery material technology can be attributed to the growing battery demand from the EV industry as well as the increased focus on resolving customer problems and expanding its product portfolio.
