Tosoh Corporation to ramp up Skyprene chloroprene rubber capacity at Nanyo Complex

Tosoh Corporation, based in Tokyo, has revealed plans to expand its production capacity for Skyprene chloroprene rubber (CR) in response to growing global demand. The company will construct a second CR production facility at its Nanyo Complex in Shunan City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, adding 22,000 metric tons per year to its output. The project, representing an investment of approximately ¥75 billion (USD 500 million), is scheduled to commence construction in spring 2027, with operations expected to begin by 2030.
Chloroprene rubber, a high-performance functional polymer, serves as a key material in Tosoh's Chemical Chain Business due to its versatile applications. The synthetic rubber is widely used in automotive components such as hoses and belts, industrial parts, adhesives, and medical gloves, owing to its balanced properties including oil resistance, weather durability, and flame retardancy.
