Bumetanide, commercially known as Bumex, is a crystalline solid having the molecular formula C17H20N2O5S and a molecular weight of 364.4 g/mol. It has a melting point in the range of 230 - 231 °C. It has a water solubility of >20 mg/mL (in base). It has a log P value of 2.6. The value of its dissociation constant, pKa, is 3.83. It dissolves in acetone and alcohol, is soluble to some extent in methylene chloride, and is insoluble in water. Bumetanide is a sulfamyl diuretic that is used to treat nephrotic syndrome, liver and renal disease, and edema associated with congestive heart failure.
