In industrial and chemical applications, cobalt (II) oxide is used as a precursor for manufacturing various cobalt compounds, including those used as cathode materials in lithium-cobalt batteries. It also finds use in the production of tungsten-cobalt cemented carbides and cobalt alloys. Its role as a pigment is well-established, imparting rich colors to glasses, ceramics, and enamels. Additionally, cobalt (II) oxide is used as a catalyst in chemical syntheses, including the production of p-xylene, and as a component in various types of magnetic materials.
