Graphite is slippery and has a metallic lustre. The carbon atom in each layer is bonded by covalent solid bonds, because of which it has a high melting point of about 3500?C. It is an excellent thermal and electric conductor. Graphite has a lower density (2.26g/cm3) in comparison to other pure forms of carbon like diamond.
