It is a toxic oxidizer that can react when combined with organic material, leading to an exothermic reaction. It can cause irritation over the skin and mucous membranes on exposure.

It can decompose when heated at around 400 °C, resulting in the formation of lithium chloride and oxygen. It has several applications that can be associated with aerospace, chemical, electronic, and other industrial operations. It has both the highest weight-to-oxygen and oxygen-to-volume ratio when compared to other perchlorates. It serves as a source of oxygen in some chemical oxygen generators.

Hence, it is incorporated into the operations carried out in the aerospace industry. It is also used as a chaotropic agent, which helps in denaturing proteins in the biochemical industry. Moreover, it serves as an alternative to other lithium compounds, including lithium hexafluorophosphate in manufacturing lithium-ion batteries. Lithium Perchlorate has high electrical impedance, electrical conductivity, anodic stability, and hygroscopicity. Along with its high oxidizing ability, the compound behaves as an excellent electrolyte salt for lithium-ion batteries.
