It encompasses all critical aspects necessary for Pendimethalin production, including the cost of Pendimethalin production, Pendimethalin plant cost, Pendimethalin production costs, and the overall Pendimethalin manufacturing plant cost. Additionally, the study covers specific expenditures associated with setting up and operating a Pendimethalin production plant. These encompass manufacturing processes, raw material requirements, utility requirements, infrastructure needs, machinery and technology requirements, manpower requirements, packaging requirements, transportation requirements, and more.
Pendimethalin is a synthetic chemical that is widely used as an herbicide to control weeds. The compound is widely used for controlling most annual grasses and certain broadleaf weeds in agricultural farms by inhibiting their growth. Moreover, it majorly finds its applications in the cultivation of crops, including cotton, rice, wheat, sugarcane, and potatoes, as it helps in managing weeds while ensuring the growth of the desired crop. Additionally, it is also utilized to prevent weeds from growing in areas such as roadsides, golf courses, railways, and industrial sites.
The demand for Pendimethalin is primarily led by its role as a broad-spectrum herbicide that is used for efficient weed control largely in the agriculture sector, which significantly boosts its market expansion. Moreover, its employment in in non-crop areas, including residential areas, industrial sites, turf, highways, railways, etc., to minimize annual grasses and other variety of weeds further accentuates its demand in industrial vegetation management (IVM). Overall, the availability of raw materials (xylene, etc.), cost and pricing, compliance with environmental regulations, maintaining quality standards, distribution (including trading and shipping), logistics, safety standards, etc., are some of the major factors that influence industrial Pendimethalin procurement to a great extent.
Raw Material for Pendimethalin Production
According to the Pendimethalin manufacturing plant project report, the major raw materials for Pendimethalin production include 4-chloro-3,5-dinitro-o-xylene and 3-pentaneamine and Xylene.
Manufacturing Process of Pendimethalin
The extensive Pendimethalin production cost report consists of the following industrial manufacturing process:
- Production via Chemical Synthesis: This method of production involves multiple chemical reactions, which leads to the synthesis of Pendimethalin. The process is initiated by refluxing a mixture of 4-chloro-3,5-dinitro-o-xylene, 3-pentaneamine, and xylene overnight, followed by cooling and filtering the reaction mixture. Further, the residue is washed with petroleum ether, followed by combining the filtrate and washings and washing it with 10% hydrochloric acid and water. Then, the organic layer is separated and dried, leaving an orange oil, which is further crystallized by the addition of methanol to obtain a yellowish-orange solid, i.e., Pendimethalin as the final product.
Pendimethalin exists in the form of orange-yellow crystals that belong to the class of substituted anilines. The compound is a dinitro mothylanilin herbicide and is also known as Penoxaline. The molecular formula of the compound is C13H19N3O4, and its molecular weight is 281.31 g/mol. Moreover, the IUPAC name of the compound is 3,4-dimethyl-2,6-dinitro-N-(pentan-3-yl)aniline. The density of the compound is 1.17g/cm3, and its flash point is 11°C. Additionally, the compound is stored at approx. 4°C, and its solubility in water is <0.5 mg/L. The boiling point and the melting point of the compound are 330°C and 56-57°C, respectively. The compound is slightly to highly flammable, which is why it should not be used or stored near flame or heat.
