They are high molecular weight water-soluble or swellable polymers. Their glass transition temperature is over the room temperature and is> 400 K. It offers foaming, anti-static and lubricating properties. It's suspected to be a carcinogen and is linked to mammary tumours.
Polyacrylamide has primary applications as a binder, film former and thickener, which is driving its market growth. In cosmetics and personal care products, it is used as a stabilizer and binder in lotions, skin cleansers, moisturizers, creams, self-tanning products, makeup, hair care and nail care products etc., and to stabilize products and bind ingredients in cosmetics. It is used for treating industrial and municipal wastewater, sewage and waste treatment.
It has employment in many industrial processes like ore processing, paper making, oil recovery, for making permanent-press fabrics, contact lenses, to synthesize dyes, and constructing dams, tunnels and sewers. In soil-related applications, it carries out erosion control, improves the soil's stability, offers fast stabilization, boosts flocculation, increases the pore volume and permeability of the soil, and is easy to apply and store with other soil amendments like fertilizer, mulch, and lowers soil sealing by binding soil particles, particularly clays holding them on site etc., which boosts its demand. Hence, the wide application area of the polymer is bolstering the market's expansion.
