This fat-soluble vitamin aids the body in efficiently absorbing calcium and phosphorus. It is obtainable through dietary sources and various supplements. Vitamin D3 manifests as a fine, colorless, crystalline solid compound, typically insoluble in water. It lacks odor and exhibits a melting point of approximately 85°C. The boiling point of the compound is 496.4°C. Its solubility extends to vegetable oil and certain chemical solvents, including 1-butanol, 2-butanol, ethanol, and Transcutol. The density of the compound is 0.9717g/cm3. The compound undergoes oxidation when exposed to moist air and is sensitive to light. However, it remains unreactive with dry propylene glycol over extended periods. The flash point of this compound is around 14°C, and its autoignition temperature is 363°C.
