Asia
During the first quarter, an oscillating pattern was seen in the price trends for ethyl acrylate. With the Russian invasion of Ukraine in the last week of February, crude oil prices soared to an unprecedented high. The prices of feedstock ethanol and acrylic acid soared globally. The ethyl acrylate prices in the Indian domestic market averaged 3100 USD/MT. However, the prices stabilized and declined during the second quarter.
In the Chinese domestic arena, the prices of ethyl acrylate declined due to the rising covid cases and halted production owing to the zero-tolerance covid restrictions. Even after removing restrictions, the factories did not run at optimum operating rates due to the demand destruction in the market. The feedstock ethanol and acrylic acid prices relaxed, averaging 7150 RMB/MT and 13,939 RMB/ton (approx.), respectively.
Europe
The European market reeled under the pressure of surging energy costs and double-digit inflation owing to the continuing Russia-Ukraine geopolitical stance. The acute energy crisis, high operating upstream costs, robust demand from the downstream sectors amid the supply side constraints and raised transportation charges impacted the prices of ethyl acrylate heavily. The price trends for ethyl acrylate remained strong throughout the year's first half. The feedstock ethanol and acrylic acid price averaged 1.3 USD/litre and 1422 USD/MT FOB, respectively.
North America
The price trends for ethyl acrylate followed its European counterpart. The surging crude oil and natural gas prices, supply shortages, trade restrictions, labour shortages and freight charges are some of the reasons which directly impacted the ethyl acrylate prices in the US domestic market. The price of ethyl acrylate averaged 2680 USD/MT in the said period.

Ethyl acrylate, more commonly known as the ethyl ester of acrylic acid, is a colorless liquid with a sharp, unpleasant odor. It is less dense than water and may polymerize violently (exothermically) if heated or contaminated. It is a naturally occurring volatile component in pineapple, Beaufort cheese, and vanilla as volatile components. It can also be manufactured industrially via several processes. It is used as an intermediate in the manufacturing of various pharmaceutical compounds. Ethyl acrylate is often used as a flavoring agent in plastics, resins, etc.

- Production of Ethyl Acrylate from Acrylic Acid and Ethanol
The production of ethyl acrylate is carried out via the esterification of acrylic acid and ethanol. It is carried out using an in-situ reactor where the feedstocks are added with the acid catalyst. A mixture containing ethyl acrylate, ethanol, acrylic acid, water, and acid catalyst is obtained upon the reaction. This mixture is carried to an ester distillation column where the products are separated. The desired ethyl acrylate is condensed, whereas the other unspent feedstock is sent to the reaction mixture again.
