Gamma Acid Production Cost Breakup By Beta-Naphthalene

Details: Germany - based plant Q2 2024  | From $ USD

This report proffers the thorough economics of gamma acid production from beta-naphthalene. It is a complex sequential process initiated with sulfonation of beta-naphthalene. The process begins by sulfonating beta-naphthalene with sulfuric acid, resulting in the formation of 2, hydroxy– 6,8 di sulfonic acid, and is further processed through drawning. In this process, 2, hydroxy– 6,8 di sulfonic acid is heated with water and then cooled, yielding 2-hydroxy naphthalene 6,8, disulfonic acid.

It is then filtered and treated with a mixture of ammonia liquor and sodium bisulfite in a high-pressure reactor. The reaction results in the amination of 2-hydroxy naphthalene 6,8, disulfonic acid, and results in forming 2-amino-8-naphthol-6-sulphonic acid as a resultant chemical. The resultant is then scrubbed to remove sulfur dioxide content, filtered, washed with hot water, and dried, removing the moisture to produce gamma acid, also known as 2-amino-8-naphthol-6-sulfonic acid, as the end product.

Feedstock for Gamma Acid

Gamma acid is a naphthalene derivative that is synthesized using beta-naphthalene as its primary feedstock. The procurement of gamma acid is majorly determined by some factors, including the availability of its raw materials (including coal tar or crude oil, which serves as the major feedstock for naphthalene production), its production cost, the logistics and trading activities, etc. Additionally, other factors, including the variations in its market prices, stability in the supply chain, demand from the downstream coating and dyestuff chemicals, along sustainability and governmental policies, largely govern its procurement process across the globe.
