PM Modi Will Be Inaugurating The Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited's Methanol Plant On April 14
Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited's (APL) latest methanol plant at Namrup in the Dibrugarh district with a 500 Tonnes Per Day (TPD) capacity on 14th April.
According to the plans for expansion, the firm aimed to produce 500 tonnes of methanol each day at its Namrup plant and 200 tonnes each day at the Bongaigaon. The Prime Minister will properly inaugurate the plant, as per Bimal Bora, the Assam Industries and Commerce Minister.
Bora added by saying that Assam Petrochemicals Limited (APL), which was established in 1971, is the country's first firm which produces methanol using natural gas and is also the top player in the petrochemical industry in India, recognized because of its premium products and a firm dedication to sustainable growth.
The Assam Minister held a meeting to look over the preparations for the event in Guwahati and asses the plant's operations.
The people in attendance for the meeting were the Secretary, Department of Industry, GoA, Commerce and PE, Dr Lakshmanan S, Commissioner, Department of Industry and Commerce, Oinam Sarankumar Singh, as well as several of Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited's (APL) representatives and other stakeholders.

Assam Petrochemicals Limited (APL) is India's first company to establish a Methanol plant that uses Natural Gas as feedstock. This plant is an undertaking of the Government of Assam, with a 51% share in the company and the remaining 49% of shares owned by Oil India Limited, established in April 1971.
Currently, in Namrup, Assam, a 125 TPD Formalin plant located at Namrup and a 100 Ton Per Day (TPD) Methanol are fully operational under APL.
APL launched an expansion scheme on October 3, 2017, to install a 200 TPD Formalin Plant at Boitamari, Bongaigaon District and a 500 TPD Methanol plant at Namrup Dibrugarh District, which accounted for around INR 1709 crore in investment.
Namrup's 500 TPD Methanol plant's installation has been a success, and the test runs for raw methanol production have been finalised with Oil India Limited from the gas fields in Assam supplying the lean natural gas (99% in Methane) and Assam Gas Company Ltd. (AGCL), transporting it, as per an undertaking by the government of Assam Public Sector.
The 200 TPD formalin undertaking will likely get commissioned in November 2023, which will use the methanol produced by the soon-to-be commissioned 500 TPD Methanol plant as feedstock.
Assam Petrochemicals Ltd. (APL) is one of the few reputable PSUs under the state Govt. The company is launching a large-scale project including 500TPD Methanol and 200 TPD Formaldehyde with a complete INR 1337 Crore in total capital along with the Govt. of Assam's (including AIDC & AGCL) & M/s Oil India Ltd., equity participation. The firm has already given M/S Engineers India Ltd. (EIL), New Delhi, the work order (with technology know-how from Haldor Topsoe, Denmark) for its 500TPD Methanol plant's LEPCM services located adjacent to its existing plant under the Methanol-Formalin project.
The company included M/s Tata Consulting Engineers Ltd. (TCE) as the Project Management Consultant (PMC) to successfully implement this project. The execution activities for the project are in progress and will likely be concluded by April 2019. on the commissioning of the recent Methanol and Formalin plants, there will also be an expansion in APL's production capacity by 70,000 TPA of Formalin and 165,000 TPA of Methanol, respectively.

APL is in-progress to turn into a significant Petro-Chemicals complex in the NER, thus opening new doors in Assam's industrialization with its latest Methanol-Formalin project. APL will guide financial stability, improve production & productivity & will create direct & indirect employment in the Northeast region.
