Honeywell introduced the world’s first Hydrogen-Capable Diaphragm Gas Meter

Capable Diaphragm Gas Meter in Europe

Honeywell, a well-known tech major, has recently announced the launch of the world’s first 100% hydrogen-capable diaphragm gas meter in Europe. The brand-new gas meter, named the Honeywell E15 meter, is capable of measuring both hydrogen and natural gas. The process has been verified and certified by Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), a national metrology institute known for providing scientific and technical services.

The gas meter is ready to be delivered to Enexis Group, which is one of the prominent Gas distributors known and located in the Netherlands. This project will integrate the residential homes built in the 1970s onto a hydrogen network, which will use a hydrogen central boiler for both heating and hot water production. Moreover, the plan focuses on initializing the usage of green hydrogen through the process of electrolysis while taking a practical step towards sustainable energy usage.

According to Kinnera Angadi, the Chief Technology Officer of Smart Energy and Thermal Solutions at Honeywell, the hydrogen-capable gas meter will play a vital role in facilitating a transition to hydrogen across the European utility networks.

A report published by the Hydrogen Council in 2020 stated that the costs of hydrogen are anticipated to decrease by 2023. This will impact the market, making it competitive with other low-carbon alternatives. The prediction has created a hustle, leading to some of the significant distributors, such as Enexis Group, that have decided to convert their main gas lines to hydrogen within the next three years.

The Programme Manager for Energy Transit and Hydrogen at Enexis Group mentioned that the transition to clean energy is as necessary as it is complex. He also stated that this project focuses on challenging the operational methodology by including alternatives to natural gas. The company is willing to explore the potential of hydrogen to build a sustainable future.
