Major Chlor Alkali Producer Olin Reported their Third Quarter Revenue
The major Chlor alkali producer Olin recounted their third-quarter revenue. The financial results for the third quarter ended on September 30, 2022, and were declared by the Olin corporation. The net income for the third quarter of 2022 was USD 315.2 million, or USD 2.18 per diluted share, while the net income for the year 2021 was valued at USD 390.7 million, or USD 2.38 per diluted share.
Adjusted EBITDA for the third quarter of 2022 was USD 547.8 million, however, this figure does not include depreciation and amortization expenditure of USD 149.8 million, gains on the sale of previous manufacturing sites of USD 13.0 million and restructuring costs of USD 7.6 million.
EBITDA as adjusted for the third quarter of 2021 was USD 707.0 million. Sales were USD 2,321.7 million in the third quarter of 2022 as opposed to USD 2,340.1 million in the same period, the previous year.
The lack of demand for epoxy and vinyl intermediates in Europe and North America, as well as rising Asian exports, have put pressure on chemical operations, the core electrochemical unit (ECU) prices for merchant chlorine and caustic soda are also rising.
Sales of vinyl and chlor alkali products for the third quarter of 2022 reached USD 1,263.5 million, which was previously valued at USD 1,062.4 million in 2021. Chlor alkali products and vinyl sales increased mostly as a result of higher prices, which was only partially offset by 17 percent lower volumes. Compared to the third quarter of 2021’s segment earnings of USD 263.0 million, the third quarter of 2022’s segment earnings were USD 253.9 million.
The segment’s earnings fell by USD 9.1 million primarily as a result of lower volumes, higher raw material, and operating costs, particularly higher electricity, and natural gas prices, which were only partially offset by higher prices across all products with the exception of vinyl intermediates, which saw a decline.
Depreciation and amortisation expenses totaled USD 121.1 million in the third quarter of 2022 for chlor alkali products and vinyl, compared to USD 116.7 million in the same period, the previous year.
Olin shares are currently trading at USD 49.56, down from their 52-week high, down 4.3% from the start of the year. Olin this month has followed other significant Materials industry earnings. Olin's result comes after Sherwin-Williams exceeded estimates on Tuesday, reporting EPS of USD 2.83 on revenue of USD 6.05 billion versus estimates of USD 2.59 on revenue of USD 5.81 Billion.
