NMDC Steel Ltd initiates trial production of Plate and HR Coils
NMDC Steel Limited (NSL) recently conducted a trial production of Hot Rolled Coils. During this trial run, 70mm semi-rolled plates sourced from Rourkela Steel Plant were successfully charged with the incorporation of the NSL team, along with MECON and Danieli. These efforts were followed by Ghost Rolling and other synchronization activities on June 29, 2023, leading to the successful rolling of Hot Slabs in the Tunnel Furnace on June 30, 2023.

Shri Amitava Mukherjee, CMD of NMDC and NSL, as well as Functional Directors of NMDC and NSL such as Shri K Praveen Kumar, Executive Director of NSL, Shri Vinay Kumar, Technical Director, and Shri Dilip Kumar Mohanty, Production Director, attended this trial event.
After stabilization of this advanced Hot Strip Mill will produce different grades of Sheets, Coils, as well as Plates with a production capacity of approximately 2.8 million Tonnes. These HR plates produced in the plant will be widely employed for manufacturing various products, such as LPG cylinders, automotive components, bridges, pipes, boilers, storage tanks, and railway wagons.

As per Shri Amitava Mukherjee, CMD of NMDC and NSL, the commencement of the Hot Strip Mill trial is a proud moment for NMDC Steel Limited. With plans to roll out steel in about a month, this success will be heralded for finalizing the commissioning as well as integrating all the packages. The inauguration of the 3. 0 MTPA Steel Plant under this ambitious project will be a watershed moment in the history of NMDC and NSL.
