Unsaturated Polyester Resin Production Cost Breakup from Acid Anhydride (saturated or unsaturated) and Glycol
Details: Germany - based plant Q2 2024 | From $ USD
This report provides an extensive cost modelling and production process of unsaturated polyester resin from the reaction of acid anhydride (saturated/unsaturated) and glycol, based on the subtype of unsaturated polyester resins. The general manufacturing process for unsaturated polyester resin begins with the preparation of raw materials, including selecting appropriate acid components (such as maleic anhydride, phthalic anhydride, isophthalic acid, terephthalic acid, or dicyclopentadiene) and glycols (such as monoethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, or propylene glycol).
These materials are charged into a reactor and heated to 150-220°C to facilitate the esterification reaction, producing water as a byproduct. Water is continuously removed to drive the reaction towards completion. Modifiers like DCPD can be added if required. Once the desired polymerization is achieved, the mixture is cooled and diluted with a monomer like styrene to reduce viscosity and aid in cross-linking during curing.
The resin is then filtered and stored under a nitrogen blanket to prevent premature polymerization. This flexible process can be adapted by varying the raw materials and conditions to produce different types of unsaturated polyester resins.
