Air Products and ExxonMobil Collaborate to Establish Europe’s Largest Blue Hydrogen Plant

Air Products has disclosed plans to construct a cutting-edge carbon capture and CO2 treatment facility at its Rotterdam hydrogen production plant, set to be operational by 2026. Once complete, it will be Europe's largest blue hydrogen facility, serving ExxonMobil's Rotterdam refinery and other clients through Air Products' pipeline network.
The retrofit will capture CO2 emissions from the plant and the refinery, linking to the Porthos project, which aims to transport and store CO2 in the North Sea's depleted gas fields. This initiative is expected to slash Air Products' CO2 emissions in Rotterdam by over fifty percent, aligning with the Dutch National Climate Agreement goals.

Concurrently, efforts are underway to decarbonize further by introducing green hydrogen produced from imported renewable energy.
